I'm new to Medium so I guess I've never witnessed those "good ol' times". I guess today it's still possible to find some unique perspectives here (and that's why I stay), but what you say it's so true that's even comical when it happens. I sometimes just laugh when I open Medium and, as much as I scroll, it looks like I'm always reading the same article.
